Here is a story about two individuals, Michael Hurst and Sandy Bishop, who both experienced positive impacts from fecal transplants. While we do not endorse do it yourself methods and recognize that more research is needed regarding the effectiveness of fecal transplants for conditions other than the treatment of Clostridium difficile infection, we acknowledge that many people turn to DIY transplants out of desperation since U.S. physicians are currently prohibited against performing FMT for conditions other than C. diff.  We urge the FDA and the medical community at large to acknowledge this and to work with these patients to provide testing for donor stool and medical supervision during their treatment, in order to minimize potential harm and/or side effects.
